FCC Paralegal Graduation by: Connie Parker May 19, 2001 marked the annual graduation for this year's Fresno City College paralegal students. Whether you were a present graduate, knew one, or simply wanted to show your support for an educational program that laid the foundation for many of our careers, it was an enjoyable evening. The setting was the Downtown Club where a delicious meal was served and there was an opportunity for dancing after the ceremony. Lisa Madden, FCC's Class President, SJALA Student Liaison and this years West Publishing Award winner hosted the ceremony along with FCC Paralegal Program Director, Brian McCully. The Key Note Speaker was local attorney Timothy Jones who discussed the importance of paralegals during his career. Mr. Jones shared his and his paralegals' struggles, frustrations, fears and ultimate success in arguing a case before the United States Supreme Court. In addition to Mr. McCully, FCC instructors Rayma Church, Teresa Petty and Mark Miller were present. Ms. Petty received an Alumni and Appreciation Award and Mr. Miller was recognized for his dedication for 10 years of service as a Civil Procedure and Litigation instructor. Johnsey Insurance and the law office of Yohman, Parker, Kern and Nard received Friends of FCC Awards in recognition of their continuing support of FCC's paralegal program. To add to the excitement, there were several generously donated prizes being raffled, with donations benefitting the FCC Paralegal Program. Prizes ranged from various gift certificates to local restaurants and retailers to a brand new computer donated by Johnsey Insurance. Of course, the proud 2001 graduates were individually recognized. But rather than Mr. McCully handing the graduate the expected Paralegal Certificate, this year's graduates received red felt pens from the valued educator. Many remember receiving their student legal papers corrected with Mr. McCully's scarlet that catches everything. What a recognizable gift to receive! |
