Finding the Expert Witness

Your attorney-boss comes to you asking you to find the names of possible expert witnesses for a new case. While finding someone local would be perfect, he wants the most experienced witness you can find. Where do you start and what are the procedures?

There are companies now that are at your service to do the searching for you. Of course, in doing so, you are limited to individuals in their database. There are also companies which allow you to do your own internet search using their database without charge until the witness is obtained.

For example, the company, Technical Advisory Service for Attorneys (TASA), is one of the more common companies used to find an expert witness. They are a company based in Pennsylvania, but have offices located throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Their experts are categorized from A to Z - from Accident Reconstruction to Zero Gravity Environments. You can access them through their web site, fax, e-mail, or you can call their 1-800 number. You tell them what you are looking for, and they will call you back with names and telephone numbers. There is no charge unless you engage an expert they refer to you.

As you access the different companies, you will probably develop a preference for one company. However, until that time here are some web sites to use in your search for the perfect witness:
